In his latest interview, Granit Xhaka revealed his inspiration while growing up, among other things.

THE LOWDOWN: TRANSFORMED MAN

Xhaka’s fortunes at the Emirates have experienced a huge turnaround with the former skipper now enjoying his football at the Emirates again.

Coupled with a change in position by Mikel Arteta, the Swiss midfielder, who is one of the longest serving members of the squad, has been in imperious form since the season started.

He has scored two goals and made three assists this season and put up excellent performances in games for the Gunners this term, which he was rewarded for by being named player of the month.

THE LATEST: INSPIRATION

Midfielder Granit Xhaka says his source of inspiration was his dad while growing up.

The Swiss international spoke at length about his growing up, career, moments, and other things with the Arsenal media.

“My main inspiration when I started my career was my dad,” Granit explained.

“He played football himself before he got an injury, but it was not just that which inspired me – his life as a whole did. He taught me never to give up on anything, to be strong, and mentally tough. He was the guy who inspired me the most.”

“He was a professional for a club in Kosovo when he was younger, he was a winger – but unfortunately by the time I was born he wasn’t playing anymore, because he had to stop with injury.”

“But really he inspired me more as a role model, rather than on the pitch. He went through a lot of very, very tough moments in his life. He’s always been very strong mentally, and he taught me those same values that I have in football now, but also my life.”

THE VERDICT: GOOD TIME

It is simply refreshing to see Xhaka hit top form again. His experience being one of the oldest members of the squad could be vital in the games ahead for this young group of Gunners.
