Lucas Torreira has been linked with AC Milan since his former Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo was named as manager.
The Italian transfer window remains open, but the Uruguayan does seem set to remain at The Emirates for another season.
Torreira’s arrival at Arsenal in 2018 was partly orchestrated by ex-Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis – also now of AC Milan.
Suggestions of a departing Torreira came after comments made by the 23-year-old that he was feeling homesick over Italy.
There were real fears that he could leave despite a strong role under Emery in the first-team.
And today his agent agent Pablo Bentancur told TMW there was a chance the midfielder could have left.
“There was the possibility. Giampaolo is in the heart of Lucas,” Bentancur said.
“But Arsenal said he had no intention of selling the boy. Lucas is fine, the club are happy with him.
“This will be the year of consecration. With the Arsenal shirt.
“Milan is Milan, it will always be an important team, even if today it has some economic problems.”
Torreira will be hoping he makes his first start of the season away to Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners will be aiming to avoid a repeat of utter embarrassment from last time they rocked up at Anfield, losing 5-1.
