Alan Shearer says the shadow of Arsene Wenger is undoubtedly hanging over the Emirates.

The Premier League’s all time record goal scorer expects Arsenal to ‘suffer’ before things start to improve.

It’s the first time in 22 years the Gunners have entered a league season without Wenger at the helm. Emery has made visible changes to the squad and the style of play, but the Spaniard is yet to get off the mark after two opening league defeats.

Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by reigning champions Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season, before losing 3-2 at Chelsea on Saturday.

And Shearer expects the difficult times to continue as Emery attempts to get his players to gel into his tactics.

Arsenal lost 3-2 at Chelsea on Saturday

‘It is going to be hugely difficult for Unai Emery to get rid of the scent of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal,’ Shearer told The Sun.

‘Wenger’s stamp is all over that football club – in and around the training ground, in and around the Emirates.

‘And it is very difficult for any manager to follow someone who has been at a club for so many years.

‘Just look at David Moyes when he followed Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

‘You cannot expect a guy to be in a club for six weeks and miraculously turn it around and for everything to be rosy again straight away.

‘Arsenal are going to have to suffer for a while and, like it or not, they are going to have to be patient.’
