Former England manager Steve McClaren believes Alexis Sanchez could be Liverpool’s ideal replacement for Philipe Coutinho.

Sanchez has just six months to run on his current deal at the Emirates and is not expected to renew his contract.

The Gunners forward has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, but McClaren believes a move to Merseyside would be a good fit.

And with Coutinho ready to sign for long-term admirers Barcelona in the next few weeks, McClaren believes the Reds should turn to Sanchez to bolster their attacking threat.

“It’s difficult. I would look at Sanchez from Arsenal as there may be a bit of movement there,” McClaren told Sky Sports (via the Mirror).

“£160million is a lot of money. You can buy a lot for that [but] Liverpool won’t want to lose Coutinho’s quality.

“I could [see Sanchez at Anfield]. Sanchez will be ambitious and he’s that type of player that could replace Coutinho.

Sanchez has netted seven goals for Arsene Wenger’s side this season and 60 overall in the Premier League.

He was targeted by Liverpool back in 2014, but the Chile international preferred a move to the Emirates.
