An Arsenal fan’s honest Prediction

With this transfer window being one of the busiest in Premier League history—seeing around £2 billion spent across all teams—the League is shaping up to be more competitive than ever. In my view, the title race will be driven by four main contenders from three different cities: Arsenal, Manchester City, reigning champions Liverpool, and the recently crowned world champions, Chelsea.

My first prediction would be Chelsea to be coming in the fourth and final champions league place. Despite making some impressive signings in the final third—such as João Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Estevão—their biggest concern remains the back line. The likely starting defense of Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Trevoh Chalobah lacks both consistent quality and reliable depth. Injuries, particularly to Reece James, and frequent defensive errors could lead to costly goals. These issues might hold Chelsea back from truly challenging the top three, despite their attacking improvements.

Manchester City are expected to regain form after a season out of the title race. The exciting additions of Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and the potential arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma bring renewed creativity and depth to Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, concerns remain defensively — particularly at right-back and in terms of centre-back depth — which could leave them exposed and vulnerable to dropping points over the course of the season.

There’s a growing consensus among Premier League fans that Arne Slot’s Liverpool side are favorites to retain the title. After an impressive transfer window featuring blockbuster arrivals from the Bundesliga — notably Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike — the Merseyside club has significantly bolstered its attacking creativity. However, despite the firepower going forward, I remain unconvinced by their defensive stability. Virgil van Dijk is clearly past his peak, both Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are full-backs who prioritize attack over defensive solidity, and there’s ongoing uncertainty surrounding French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté. This combination suggests Liverpool may find themselves in high-scoring affairs — think 4–3s and 3–2s — which, while entertaining, feels unsustainable over the course of a 38-game league season, especially when paired with the demands of a Champions League campaign.

With the Gunners boasting the most clean sheets across the past two seasons, they’ve clearly established a solid defensive foundation. Now, with the high-profile signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon to lead the line, Arsenal look set to take the next step. The firepower up front, combined with their proven defensive stability, should be enough to improve on last season’s tally of 69 Premier League goals—and that could be the edge they need to bring the title back to North London.

George Henry Boynton (Named after the heroic french striker,) was born into the mighty Arsenal, with his first game being Tottenham vs Arsenal on the 25th April 2004 (six days after his birth.) He grew up in the Wenger ball era, falling in love with players like Cesc Fàbregas, Robin Van Persie, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and his faviourite Santi Cazorla. He was also lucky enough to be present at the first League game at the Emirates stadium. Since then he has been present for some amazing games and goals at the ground. Including, Arsenal 5- 1 victory against Manchester City and Jack Wilshere's iconic goal against Norwich in 2013. George attends as many home games as possible and can often be found watching away matches in the Famous Old Cock at Highbury Corner.
