Arsenal sealed their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League on a night when Danny Welbeck was stretched off with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

The Gunners came into the game 14 unbeaten and needed just a point to book their place in the Round of 32.

Unai Emery made a host of changes, which saw youngster Matteo Guendouzi and Emile Smith-Rowe both start. Just days after being called up to the England squad to the England squad to face USA, Welbeck was also given his chance to shine.

However, the 27 year-old was hurt in the 25th minute at Emirates Stadium and received oxygen and had his leg in a protective brace as he was carried off the pitch.

It came after he jumped for a header and landed badly on his right ankle.

Several teammates were visibly concerned for the Englishman’s welfare and it looks like the striker will be out of action for long time.

Arsenal had a chance to win it late on. A defensive error allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to run through one on one. However, Jeremy Mattieu took one for the team and hacked the Gabon forward down before he could get his shot away.

The former Barca defender was shown a straight red, but Sporting earned themselves a point.
