Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb: 3 best Gunners from the win

Arsenal were fantastic all around this evening as they defeated Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

The pressure was on, with nothing less than all three points being enough to extend the European adventure, but Arsenal responded superbly as a team- but the individual performances were absolutely astonishing too.

In truth every player on the field tonight was brilliant and it was difficult, perhaps unfair, to pick out the top-three players and some memorable mentions need to be made, with Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla particularly impressing.

Unfortunately for the Spanish pair, these three Arsenal men were the superior players on the pitch this evening and were crucial to the Gunners emerging triumphant.

All eyes will now be on Arsenal’s trip to Olympiakos in two weeks time, where Arsenal need to better the result the Greek side secured in North London earlier this campaign to advance.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez was electric tonight and deserved a hat-trick, which would have taken him to double figures for the season, but the Chilean took his tally to nine- and you’d fancy him to extend that goalscoring form in the coming games.

After being rested for the defeat to West Brom at the weekend, Alexis returned with a vengeance and was superb throughout. His opening goal was well taken and he showed brilliant control for his second of the night, which sealed the result.

Having not scored for six matches heading into this game, Alexis’ confidence will now be sky high and we’ve seen how important that could be in the season following his superb spell of form after netting a hat-trick against Leicester City earlier this season.

Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil was another superb performer for Arsenal this evening, with the German playmaker dominating the play and proving to be a huge catalyst for Arsenal going forward. His goal capped off a tremendous display and he took it superbly, a fantastic diving header.

Ozil and Alexis have formed a superb relationship on the field today and it showed, proving too much for the Croatian champions to deal with. Crucially he avoided a booking this evening, which means he will be available for the trip to Olympiakos.

Joel Campbell

With Aaron Ramsey making his return from injury tonight, whilst Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to return imminently, many expected Joel Campbell to filter to the sidelines once again and remain in the shadows.

However, Campbell gave what was probably his best performance in an Arsenal jersey tonight; showing the sort of form we’ve seen from him on international duty with Costa Rica for the first-time during his spell in North London.

Campbell was determined and skilful, direct and pacy, simply fantastic. With Arsenal set for a Premier League title push, and a test to advance in Europe, having an in-form Campbell amongst the squad could provide the difference.
