Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexandre Lacazette doesn’t understand why Arsenal have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Frenchman was brought in just last summer for a club-record fee. Lacazette has scored nine times this season, but is currently on a baron run in front of goal having found the net just once in his previous 10 matches.
It prompted Wenger to sign Aubameyang in January. Lacazette was dropped to bench in place of the Gabon international and the ace scored on his home debut last weekend as Arsenal demolished Everton 5-1.
Asked how Lacazette has reacted to being dropped for Arsenal’s new club-record signing, Wenger said: ‘You do not have to understand too much, you know, what you want is that everybody focuses to win the game.
‘Is it do they start the game or not? In this game [against Everton] he did not come on because we had a problem with the goalkeeper.
‘But, overall, you do not want as well the players to understand too much why they don’t play.
‘They don’t understand and I agree completely with them, they all want to play, that’s natural and that’s normal.’
Lacazette may have to sit out of the second north London derby of the season on Saturday. The Gunners take on Tottenham at Wembley in a bid to close the gap to their rivals to 1.
