William Carvahlo is back on Arsenal’s radar and the club are intent on signing him before next summer’s World Cup, reports say.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been a longtime target of the Gunners, but it appeared Arsenal’s interest had finally cooled this summer.

Yet, according to Sport Witness, Arsenal have now opened talks with Sporting over a deal for the 25-year-old.

Carvalho, who came close to joining West Ham in the summer is reportedly a target of Chinese outfit Tianjin Quanjian, managed by former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa.

Despite keeping a clean sheet against West Ham in midweek, Arsenal have been leaky in defence this season and could do with a defensive midfielder to screen the backline.

The suggestions are that Wenger has declared his interest in the Portugal international and Arsenal are now looking to secure a transfer before the World Cup begins. It could cost them €40m.
