Arsenal have already broken their transfer record once this summer by landing Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in a deal worth around £44m initially, potentially rising to £52m, but that could be surpassed with the Gunners next recruit.

The Daily Mail states Arsenal are confident that they can reach an agreement with French champions Monaco for the services of 21-year-old winger Thomas Lemar, with a deal worth £45m widely reported- but it’s likely add-ons will take that figure beyond Lacazette’s price.

Arsene Wenger has made Lemar his prime-target after concluding deals to sign Sead Kolasinac and Lacazette and the Gunners believe a deal is achievable, amidst suggestions that Lemar himself is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

It’s reported Arsenal have already seen two bids, worth £30m and £40m respectively, rejected but the Gunners believe their third offer of £45m will spark business with the French champions, who are losing a wealth of their title-winning squad.

Wenger has confirmed that Lemar is on his radar and it seems increasingly likely that the Frenchman will be an Arsenal player by the time the Gunners kick-off the new Premier League season against Leicester on August 11th.
