According to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset , AC Milan have made a two-year loan offer for Torreira worth £7m and including a £34m purchase option.

It’s a condition Arsenal are seriously considering after Torreira revealed he has struggled to adapt to life in England.

The Gunners are not keen on the midfielder leaving after just one season in the Premier League, but negotiating a loan deal with an obligatory purchase at the end of it could sway them.

An impressive debut season has seen Torreira become an instant crowd favourite at the Emirates following his £26.5m move from Sampdoria.

Ex-manager Marco Giampaolo has just left to become AC Milan boss and it appears the Italian wants to reunite with his tough-tackling midfield prodigy.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is now at the forefront of their push to make the deal happen.
