Arsenal have made waves on the transfer market this summer but they could find themselves with work to do again in January, according to a former Chelsea man.

Ex-Blues ace Tony Cascarino wrote in The Times that he believes current Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is well past his best and that doesn’t believe he’ll still be first-choice at the end of the season, adding he feels David Ospina isn’t good enough to replace him.

“I’m not sure that Petr Cech will be No 1 at Arsenal come the end of season. The 35-year-old is nowhere near the level he was and rather than using his experience to compensate for fading ability he looks increasingly shaky in goal.”

“He’s playing on reputation but I’m not sure David Ospina is good enough to replace him. If this becomes a problem Arsene Wenger may have to look at buying a goalkeeper in January.”

Cech was at fault for Leicester City’s equalising goal on Friday evening and drew criticism for the other two goals the Gunners conceded, though Arsenal fought back to secure all three points on the opening night of the new Premier League season.
