Arsenal could sign Man Utd enforcer this summer

Arsenal are favourites to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling this summer.

The Englishman could be cut by Jose Mourinho this summer alongside Phil Jones – that’s despite the Red Devils boasting the best defence in the league having conceded just 19 times in 27 games.

Now according to reports, Arsenal are in pole-position to sign Smalling, whilst Everton are the favourites to snap up Jones at the end of the season.

The 6 ft 4″ defender has started 18 times this season, but came under fire for a poor performance against Newcastle last weekend.

The Gunners have been struggling defensively this season and now Arsene Wenger has been tipped to revamp his backline this summer.

Smalling recently marked eight years at Old Trafford after arriving from Fulham in 2010. The 28 year-old has appeared 172 times for United and gained 31 caps from his country.
