Arsenal dealt blow as target sets sights on new deal

Arsenal have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Anthony Martial after reports emerge that the Frenchman will sign a new contract with Manchester United.

Martial, who arrived for an initial £36m (which could potentially rise to £57.6 million) from Monaco in 2015, has scored 36 goals in 129 appearances for United.

The 22 year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2019 and was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

After losing several first-team forwards in the previous two transfer windows, Arsenal had been tipped to sign the France international this summer.

However, ESPN understands that United are planning to reopen talks with Martial and are confident that the forward will reach an agreement.

Martial now appears to be settled in Manchester and is expecting a child with partner Melanie Da Cruz.
