Kieran Tierney could become an Arsenal player in the next week as Arsenal are ‘getting closer’ to agreeing a deal with Celtic.

That’s according to journalist Duncan Castles, who claims the SPL champions are playing hard ball for now, but will sell because their wage bill has increased significantly in recent years under former manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Gunners have failed with at least two bids for the left-back so far.

Tierney, who has already made 170 appearances for the club at 22 years of age, is said to be keen on swapping Glasgow for North London.

“As we’ve said, Celtic will sell if the money is right,” he said on The Transfer Window podcast (via Daily Star).

Tierney is continually linked with a move to Arsenal

“They do work on the premise that they need to bring money in from transfers each summer to keep their budget running over.

“I believe they’ve increased their wage bill quite significantly in recent years, apparently as a result of having Brendan Rodgers as manager. Therefore, there’s an incentive on their side to sell.

It is believed the Hoops are demanding £30m for their starlet defender, a valuation Arsenal are yet to have matched. Despite Arsenal’s low transfer budget, Castles believes a deal will still be completed.

“It seems Arenal are getting closer to the price they’re looking for.

Tierney’s manager, Neil Lennon has remained calm on the situation

“They’ve still got a bit of time in this window in that they’ve got till the 8th of August to complete that deal, so you would think that they can get this one done.”

“We know that Arsenal have a limit on their budget,” he said.

“They obviously see Tierney as a very good fit to what they’re trying to do going forward, in terms of their is a bit of that Tottenham model of buying up good talents who can develop into high-level Champions League players.

“They desperately need an improvement at left-back. Tierney gives them the option of also being deployable on the left side of a three in central defence, potentially as a centre-back in a back four.
