Arsenal are looking to shake up their ranks between the sticks this summer with a swoop for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio, according to reports cited by The Sun.

The Gunners have seen first-choice veteran Petr Cech struggle for consistency this season and there are concerns about the suitability of second-choice David Ospina when it comes to more regular openings, which has left Arsenal eyeing a move in the market.

29-year-old Patricio would command a fairly low fee, reportedly around £13m, and the experienced goalkeeper is seen by Arsenal as the ideal choice to be their new long-term number one- despite Wojciech Szczesny’s positive performances on-loan with Roma.

It’s unclear whether the 26-year-old Poland international still has a future at the Emirates Stadium but a swoop for Patricio would likely see him axed from the side, with Arsenal landing a top-class goalkeeper they desperately need.

Patricio is well regarded on the European stage having made over 400 appearances for Sporting, as well as being named in the Euro 2016 Team of the Tournament last year when Portugal lifted the international honour.
