Manchester City are plotting to hijack Arsenal’s move for Dayot Upamecano, reports say.

The Gunners may live to regret signing the RB Leipzig defender this past summer,  but they refused to raise their final £55million offer.

The France centre-half has remained at the very top of their transfer wishlist, but now the north Londoners face heavy competition from Manchester City for his signature.

Under pressure Spanish boss Unai Emery is desperate for the 21-year-old to join the club to help their defensive woes.

With 22 appearances last season, Upamecano helped the Leipzig reach the Champions League this term.

He has another two years left on his current Leipzig contract, but with his contract expiring at the end of next season, the player’s value continues to plummet and the Gunners believe they could now land him for £40m.

Arsenal have been leaking goals in 2019/20, so the arrival of Upamecano could pay dividends.
