Joe Campbell is set to return to Arsenal following a combination of knee and ankle injuries.

The forward, currently on loan at Real Betis picked up a knee problem while playing for Costa Rica in the Gold Cup last summer.

Campbell, who was loaned out to Sporting Lisbon last season has struggled to establish himself at Arsenal.

Sporting, had hoped he’d earn a permanent transfer there, but that did not materialise. And now Betis are ready to let him go following injuries to his knee and ankle, the former of which involved surgery.

Whether Campbell can get force his way into the Arsenal team when fit again is doubtful. Arsene Wenger appears set on calling it time on his stint at the Emirates. The winger has just six months left on his current deal with the club.

The 25 year-old signed in 2011 from Saprissa has made just 23 Premier League appearances.
