Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be forced to miss the Europa League final against Chelsea.

UEFA officials have failed to guarantee the Armenian’s safety in Baku and the Gunners are now increasingly resigned to having to leave the midfielder out of the crucial cup final.

The political situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia means that Mkhitaryan could potentially be a target at the final in Baku on May 29th.

Mkhitaryan has played more minutes in the competition that any other Arsenal midfielder this term and provided two assists for his team.

According to the Daily Star, Gunners fans of Armenian descent have reportedly had their visa applications turned down by Azerbaijan.

Arsenal must win to ensure a return to Champions League football next season and the club are working to ensure that he can travel with his teammates.

Unai Emery may have to leave Mkhi at home for the Europa League final

“As you know Azerbaijan have banned Armenians from entering the country over tensions between the bordering rivals,” Armenian sports journalist Hrach Khachatryan of VbetNews told football.london.

“If a person’s passport shows any evidence of travel to Nagorno-Karabakh, barring a diplomatic passport, they are forbidden entry to Azerbaijan.

“Moreover, the citizens of any countries having Armenian surnames have almost no chance to travel to Azerbaijan.

“So you can have a UK passport, but if you have an Armenian surname, you will be not allowed to pass the border.

“So we can’t even cover that match. I’m little bit surprised. There is only one problem – Henrikh’s safety.
