Arsenal have started the new season in rather indifferent form and are eyeing the January transfer window as the ideal opportunity to provide improvements to their squad, although the re-opening of the market is still months away.

The Gunners are keen on defensive reinforcements, with Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season, and The Sun understands highly-rated Le Harve defender Harold Moukouni is one of the names on Arsene Wenger’s short-list.

French minnows Le Harve have a strong record at developing young talents, which includes Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet, and the second-tier outfit are resigned to losing their latest talent; with a deal possible in January, which would see the 19-year-old loaned back to his current employers until the end of the season.

However, Arsenal are not alone in the chase for the teenage defender as it’s reported OGC Nice, Bordeaux and RB Leipzig are also interested in the French U18 international.

If he moved to Germany, Moukouni could follow in the foot-steps of Leipzig star Naby Keita; who will join Liverpool in a £45m deal next summer, just a few years after moving to his current side from the French second division.
