Arsenal have edged a step closer to securing Carlo Ancelotti as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.

Reports in Italy suggest the former three-time Champions League winner wants to return to club management despite being linked with the Italian national side job.

Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be “in pole position” to sign him.

In December the former Chelsea boss stated he is interested in a return to club management.

I would like to continue to train a club team. The national team? It would be like changing jobs.

Ancelotti was sacked by Bayern Munich in September following a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian had led Bayern to a league and cup double the previous season, whilst he also lifted the Premier League with Chelsea in 2009/10.

Arsene Wenger signed a two-year extension last year, but the speculation that he could move on in the summer continue.

Gooners, would Ancelotti be the ideal replacement for Wenger? Let us know in the comments…
