Former Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole has announced his retirement from the game.

Cole has said he is planning a move into coaching after calling time on his illustrious playing career.

The ex-England international rose through the ranks at Arsenal before emerging as a superstar under Arsene Wenger.

Cole made his professional debut for the Gunners in 1999 and lifted two Premier League titles, including being an integral member of the famous Invincible side that survived a whole league campaign without suffering a defeat.

The 38 year-old acrimoniously joined Chelsea in 2006 in which he spent eight years at Stamford Bridge. He lifted the FA Cup four times for the Blues and also won the Premier League in 2010 and the Champions League in 2012, scoring in the penalty shootout as Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in the final.

Spells at Roma, LA Galaxy and Derby have capped off a career spanning more than 500 total appearances.

Cole, who won 107 caps for England, announced his retirement on Sky Sports (via The Guardian), where he was appearing as a pundit for Sunday afternoon’s Premier League games.
