Charlie Nicholas believes Mesut Ozil is being continually overlooked by Unai Emery due to the fact he is “not training hard enough”.

For the third time in a row, the German was omitted from Emery’s matchday sqaud as Arsenal disappointed in a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Lys Mousset struck for the brilliant Blades, as Arsenal, who have never won at Sheffield United in the Premier League in four attempts, missed the chance to go third.

Ozil, 31, has featured just twice for the Gunners in all competitions this season, raising eyebrows among many fans in the early stages of the season.

Charlie Nicholas reckons Ozil is not training hard enough

It has been hinted by Raul Sanllehi that the playmaker is not training well. Meanwhile, Unai Emery claimed Arsenal’s youngsters “deserved” a spot in his team ahead of Ozil.

Previewing Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Vitoria SC on Thursday, which is expected to see Emery make several changes, Nicholas toldĀ Sky Sports : “Will he throw Mesut Ozil into this situation?

“I think Unai Emery knows Ozil is not training hard enough, so that is why he is not putting him in the team.

Ozil’s contract still has the best part of two years to run and the German recently insisted he has no intention of leaving north London.
