Henrikh Mkhitaryan will ‘struggle’ to make an impact for Arsenal this season and Arsenal should be looking to offload one player in the coming weeks.

That’s the view of Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn.

Mkhitaryan started in the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Newcastle in the first game of the season.

However, a regular position in the team is seriously under threat following the arrival of club-record signing Nicolas Pepe.

Whilst the Gunners have completed their transfer incomings until the Premier League’s January window opens, clubs on the continent can still buy players this summer.

Mkhitaryan has struggled since arriving from Manchester United in 2018

Mkhi provided just 10 goals and assists in the league last season and his unconvincing form continued away at Newcastle last Sunday.

Winterburn, who made over 400 top flight appearances for Arsenal, reckons his old side should cash in on the Armenian who will only become a ‘frustrated’ figure this season.

“Arsenal should look to sell Mkhitaryan to a European team this transfer window,” Winterburn told sportingbet.

“When everyone is back fit for Arsenal, Mkhitaryan is going to struggle to get any game time at all during the season.

Unai Emery could draft in Nicolas Pepe on Saturday

“Mkhitaryan looks a frustrated figure, nothing seems to be working out for him on the pitch – his passes are misplaced, his shooting is off and he can’t beat his man.

“His performance against Newcastle on the opening game of the season wasn’t good enough, especially when you’re playing at the highest level.

“No doubt, Mkhitaryan is a talented player but he’s going to struggle to hold down a regular position when everybody’s fit.
