Arsenal’s changes behind the scenes this summer have seen a familiar face return to North London, as Jens Lehmann returned to the club ten years after first signing for the Gunners.

The German invincible will provide a huge boost in coaching the goalkeepers at London Colney and will also help the entire squad, helping to establish more faces behind the scenes that know the way of Arsenal- potentially the start of a new era, following the exits of ageing faces like Pat Rice.

Two Arsenal legends, Robert Pires and Gilberto Silva, both believe Lehmann is a superb addition to the Gunners staff, with former World Cup winner Pires tellingĀ Sky Sports:

“It is good news. I’m very pleased for Jens, he’s a good guy and a good professional. He can help the goalkeepers but not only them, the rest of the squad as well.”

“You need to have a competitive side and Jens has always had that. He’s a great professional. He’s a German too, so he has his own rules. Sometimes he is very strict, but you need to have discipline in the dressing room and Jens is the man to bring that.”

Gilberto echoed the views from the Frenchman, as he said:

“I am very pleased for Jens and for the club. He is a very professional person and a guy who is passionate for the game. I am sure it will be very important for the club to have him around because he is the kind of person who pushes the other guys when he sees something that is not right. The way he does things is in a very positive way.”

“Maybe sometimes people saw him do things in the past and had a different interpretation of things but the way he was with us, sometimes we laughed. But in the end, we knew he was doing it for the benefit of the team. Sometimes you must have someone like this.”

As things stand, Arsenal need a lot more than the arrival of Lehmann though, and few punters will be using their Bet365 Promo Code to bet on the Gunners winning the Premier League next year. Arsenal are currently out of the running as fifth favourites with most bookmakers ahead of the new season, behind Manchester City, Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham Hotspur, despite the latter moving home and playing the role of tenants at England’s home of football, Wembley, for the duration of the campaign.
