Arsenal might not be currently fully up to speed in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign as we look to end our string of title disappointments in more recent years and finally lift the top flight trophy, but our new summer signings are bedding in and beginning to impress, and it has been a steady start to the campaign.

Heading into Sunday’s trip to St James Park to face Eddie Howe’s semi struggling Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta’s side sit in second spot in the table with three wins and a draw from our opening five matches and we have made good starts to both our League Cup and Champions League campaigns. And for those fans who enjoy a flutter on their football with the likes of MightyTips, which offers a team of experts in the world of sports betting, helping players make more informed decisions, hopefully there will be plenty more to come from the side in the months that lie ahead.

With Gabriel Magalhaes signing his own new deal extension back in June, news this week that central defensive partner William Saliba has committed his own future to the club with a new five year deal will come as great news to the Emirates Stadium faithful, and despite our spending last summer and the addition (finally) of a true striker in the shape of Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres, there are already reports that we plan on strengthening further in the January transfer window to double down on our chances for success this year.

News has begun circulating in Spanish outlets that claim we are seriously tracking two La Liga talents in the shape of Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume and Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo. Gunners fans with longer memories will remember that there was quite a bit of speculation linking us with 23 year old French Under 21 international Agoume last July given the defensive midfielders impressive rise at Sevilla and again it seems that there may well be a deal to be done at around the 30 million Euro mark as we look to round the squad out further.

The more left field link though is 45 capped Japanese international (right) winger Kubo. The 24 year old attacker has spent time with both Barcelona and Real Madrid during the early years of his career, but he has really made a name for himself at Real Sociedad with well over 100 appearances to his name following his arrival at the club back in 2022. It is claimed that he has a 60 million Euro release fee, but it is believed that we will go in lower than that in the New Year to test the waters, with it understood that we are prepared to be patient and wait for the summer window if needs must.

Further defensive midfield strength with Agoume having already been linked does make sense, but with the current wing options available to Arteta on a first team front, Kubo would feel like a more ‘project’ type of signing just to see how he could adjust to the pace and strength of the Premier League and then develop and improve further, and in line with the potential that many in the wider world of football feel that he has – albeit with the caveat that he is not there yet.

They may well be two names worth remembering in the coming months just to see if there is actually anything in this speculation.
