Whilst there has been plenty of drama in Arsenal’s last few matches, they will be hoping for a much easier run of things when they travel to Southampton on 16 December. The Gunners will be looking to extend their hugely impressive 21-match unbeaten run, and with Southampton placed joint-bottom of the Premier League table, it could give Unai Emery’s side the chance to run riot.

Although the recent laughing gas incident may have caused a few embarrassing headlines, there is enough confidence in the current Arsenal squad to ‘laugh off’ such issues and give the Emirates Stadium faithful plenty of celebrate on Sunday.

Southampton are having a dreadful 2018/19 campaign, and with just one win in sixteen games, it’s easy to see why they gave Mark Hughes his marching orders. The club’s new manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, has already experienced two bruising defeats at the hands of Tottenham and Cardiff, and so it’s easy to see why Southampton’s prospects against Arsenal have already received plenty of amusing match prediction articles.

However, as anybody who saw Arsenal’s recent match against Huddersfield will know, the Gunners don’t always make it easy for themselves. Unai Emery’s side left it very late in the game to win the match, and the young Uruguayan star, Lucas Torreira, came to the rescue with just a few minutes to play. Such a result confirmed many of the Arsenal match predictions ahead of the Huddersfield clash, although they won’t have made it easy for their loyal fans.

In fact there’s has been something of a running theme of Arsenal taking a long time to get into the game. This is proven by the fact that the Gunners have yet to actually lead a match at the half-time break. Thankfully, Arsenal seem to find their feet in the second half of the match, and there was no better example of this than in their epic victory over Tottenham at the start of December.

What’s remarkable is the way in which Arsenal seem to come alive in the second half of each match with a whopping 38 points scored in the last 45 minutes of each encounter. Such an approach may provide plenty of entertaining football, but it won’t provide any comfort for Unai Emery.

The Spanish coach has managed to recover from his shaky start at the Emirates Stadium and looks good to lead Arsenal into European football next season. Whilst stars like Laurent Koscielny have yet to find their feet in Emery’s new-look team, and Rob Holding has suffered a traumatic injury, there is little doubting the fact that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is having a great time under the new coach.

With 10 goals in the season so far, Aubameyang is joint top of the Premier League goalscorer table alongside Mo Salah. And with Southampton’s defence being notoriously shaky, you wouldn’t want to bet against the Gabonese star bagging a few more on Sunday afternoon.
