Arsenal have already spent heavily this summer, smashing their transfer record to bring Alexandre Lacazette in from Lyon, but it seems the Gunners are continuing to eye further business.

The Daily Star, citing reports from Portuguese outlet Record, states Arsenal are ready to reignite their interest in long-term midfield target William Carvalho, who has a release-clause of £40m injected into his contract with Sporting Lisbon.

Significantly though, the report adds the Portuguese side are willing to do business for a cut-price fee of £27m and the 25-year-old is keen on a move to North London, with his hero being Gunners legend Thierry Henry.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmieri has taken to Twitter to suggest Arsenal have opened talks for the midfielder’s services, who could potentially become the third major signing of the window- following from Sead Kolasinac and Lacazette.

An arrival for Carvalho could see him partner Granit Xhaka in midfield, with Aaron Ramsey potentially playing further toward alongside Mesut Ozil- should Alexis Sanchez leave.
