Arsenal have reportedly made PSV Eindhoven’s winger Cody Gakpo their top priority for the winger position this summer…

THE LOWDOWN: ATTACKING REINFORCEMENTS

The Gunners aim to build on a successful transitional season under Mikel Arteta as they eye several key players to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

They remain the favourites to finish in the top four ahead of Tottenham, which would allow them to spend a bit more fluidly in the coming window.

After strengthening the defence and goalkeeping positions in the previous summer, Arteta is likely to focus on reinforcing the attacking side of the team.

While the current crop have performed admirably, the manager is keen to add competition for existing stars such as Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

And they have reportedly identified a hot prospect to join their charge next season.

THE LATEST: TOP PRIORITY

According to Footmercato, the north London outfit remain in the hunt for Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch winger a priority target for the Arsenal boss.

The club reportedly want to prioritise a move for the 23-year-old, and they could make a swoop once the Dutch Eredivise season ends.

Also according to Turkish transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, the PSV have slapped a £30m price tag on the talented wing wizard.

THE VERDICT: BARGAIN

PSV’s flying Dutchman has enjoyed a remarkable campaign for the Eredivisie title contenders this season, and it’s no wonder several top clubs on the continent, including the Gunners, are scouring for his services with a view to making him their top man for next season.

The Dutch wonderkid has been a revelation for Roger Schmidt’s men, possessing a WhoScored rating of 7.78 so far this campaign, the third-best in the Dutch top-flight, behind Luis Sinisterra (7.89) and Ajax’s Dusan Tadic (7.79).

Considering the sheer amount of potential and ceiling the £22.5m-rated attacker currently possesses in his impressive weaponry, the £30m price quoted to secure his signature is an absolute bargain.

Over his 26 Eredivisie appearances this campaign, the four-time Netherlands international forward has been in sensational form for PSV, scoring 12 goals, and laying on 13 assists and creating ten big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of three shots and making 2.5 key passes per game, highlighting his incredible influence in the attacking third.

Such metrics have seen the £7.4k-per-week talisman dubbed by journalist Agragami a “serious talent” and also a player who “has everything”  as expressed by ex-Dutch international midfielder Theo Janssen.

However, it has not only been in the league that Gakpo has shone, with the Eindhoven-born starlet bagging a further nine goals and registering two more assists over 20 appearances in domestic and European cup competitions, taking his haul for the current campaign to a whopping 21 goals and 15 assists over 45 outings.

Possessing sheer pace, acceleration, upper-body strength, vision and a pure threat in front of goal, the Dutch maestro would provide Arsenal with the added dynamism and attacking threat they desperately need to reach that next level. Therefore, capturing Gakpo could potentially prove one of the signings of the summer.
