The transfer window officially came to an end on Monday and the Gunners managed to finish off their summer with a sixth and final signing in the form of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Despite the club’s heavy activity in the window, coming out as the top spenders in the league, there are still doubt over the squad and Mikel Arteta this season, as illustrated by the bet365 odds on the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Signings such as Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, and Ben White should certainly help the squad and the quality it possesses, but their performances and a judgement over the three signings cannot yet be determined after just three games.

However, despite the additions and the signing of Tomiyasu at right-back, the club has reportedly been offered another opportunity in the position, but in very controversial form.

According to The Express, Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Tottenham’s wantaway right-back Serge Aurier after the North London rivals mutually terminated the Ivorian’s contract.

Aurier signed for Spurs back in 2017 from French giants PSG for £22.5million. This summer saw the two parties go their separate ways, with them signing a new right-back in the form of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.

Of course, this is a very controversial take given Aurier’s affiliation with the Gunners’ rivals, but it isn’t the worst suggestion given his experience and ability.

Having spent four years in the Premier League and at many times providing some impressive performances, he would prove valuable cover for new boy Tomiyasu, as well as the fact that Hector Bellerin has now joined Real Betis on a season-long loan.

Arsenal’s current options at right-back consist of the aforementioned Tomiyasu and Portuguese national Cedric Soares – however, Aurier would relieve plenty of the demand in that position, as well as the fact that both Tomiyasu and Cedric can play at left-back, with the Japanese defender also comfortable in central defence.

The only issue is of course that Aurier is a former Spurs player, but this hasn’t stopped the Gunners from signing anyone from across the pond before.

A number of Spurs players have made their way to the Emirates, and Aurier likely wouldn’t be the last.

With him currently a free transfer, a deal can easily be reached and it is fair to say that despite it being a free transfer, wouldn’t be anywhere near the cost of some other players.
