Nacho Monreal is in talks with Arsenal to have his contract extended.
Monreal’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the 32 year-old will leave on a free should he fail to put pen to paper.
The news comes just days after the Spaniard was linked with a move to Barcelona. The La Liga champions are suggested to be in the market for a defender to operate as back up for Jordi Alba.
Monreal told the Evening Standard (via Sky Sports): “At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal.
“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”
With Sead Kolisinac out injured for another month, Monreal’s place in the Arsenal team is secure under new boss Unai Emery for the time being.
The 22 capped international is available for Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle on Saturday.
