Arsenal are reportedly earmarked Chris Smalling as the man to help improve their defence.

The Manchester United centre-half is currently enjoying a loan spell at Roma.

Smalling has been in sensational form on-loan in Serie A this season after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

The Three Lions centre-back helped Roma maintain a cleansheet in 0-0 draw with Inter Milan over the weekend – England boss Gareth Southgate was even in attendance to run the rule on the 30 year-old.

Arsenal’s defensive frailties continue to escalate. It’s now 23 goals conceded in 15 league games this season and their central defence has been one of the main problems in their decline.

Smalling will still have two years left on his contract at United on his return and his availability is set to cause a scramble among Arsenal’s league rivals.

Gooners, would you take Smalling? Let us know in the comments…
