According to reports, Arsenal have lined up Carlo Ancelotti to replace Arsene Wenger and the boss could walk away at the end of the season.

Wenger signed a two-year contract extension last summer and has always insisted he fulfils his contracts.

However, a poor league campaign has seen Arsenal fall 23 points behind Manchester City. The Gunners were also dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side Nottingham Forest and the club’s officials are now aware Wenger is considering leaving his post at the end of the campaign.

Ancelotti, who is moving back to London next month, was sacked by Bayer Munich in September following a 3-0 defeat away to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian won a Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010 with Chelsea, while he is also a three-time Champions League winner.

While nothing is conclusive yet, it appears Arsenal would be prepared to allow Wenger to end his 22-year stint at the club.
