Arsenal remain adamant that Alexis Sanchez will not be sold this summer but the Gunners seem to be preparing behind the scenes for the possible loss of their Player of the Year.

Spanish outletĀ Don BalonĀ states the Gunners will move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema if they fail to keep hold of Alexis, raising links that Arsenal fans will be familiar with after being linked with the Frenchman’s services on numerous occasions in recent years.

The 29-year-old could find himself out of the side at Real Madrid next season, with Cristiano Ronaldo potentially leading the line, and Arsenal want to bring the striker to the Emirates Stadium- despite having already spent a club-record fee on Alexandre Lacazette.

A decision to bring in Benzema would certainly raise eyebrows but they could utilise both Lacazette and his compatriot in the same set-up, with Benzema leading the line and Lacazette playing just behind him alongside Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal have already adopted this set-up during pre-season games in Australia, where Lacazette played behind Olivier Giroud, and there’s the option of the duo creating a devastating partnership at the Emirates Stadium.

If Alexis was to stay, Lacazette would likely lead the line ahead of the Chilean and Ozil but Arsenal’s tactics show the versatility of their latest recruit.
