Arsène Wenger looks set to make his first move of the summer with the shocking swoop of Pascal Cygan’s younger brother Salpac. The younger Cygan, 19, has been wooing fans of his current club, French National League side US Raonnaise with his dazzling performances on the left wing.

Cygan has scored an astonishing 15 goals from only 22 starts this season and has alerted the scouts of such French clubs as Monaco, Lyon, Marseille and Paris St Germain. It was rumoured that the latter had secured a deal for the youngster but Wenger appears to have once again trumped his European rivals by snatching his signature from under their noses. Cygan’s contract with US Raonnaise runs out on 1st April 2004 and although he would be unavaliable for the English run in due to Arsenal being outside their transfer window, Wenger is rumoured to see him as a long term replacement for Robert Pires.

Salpac’s brother Pascal has been unavailable for comment, but his mother and agent Avril Cygan had the following to say:

“Of course we are all very excited at the developments, and the prospect of Salpac joining his brother Pascal at Arsenal is incredible! We are now hoping that the name “Cygan” will go down in history along with other Arsenal greats as Henry and Vieira!”

The Arsenal-Mania team expect to bring you further details on this breaking story tomorrow, so stay tuned.
