Arsenal have been knocked back in their attempts to make a deadline day signing.
The Gunners had been expected to settle with their five signings this summer. However, Wedneday’s reports claimed the north Londoners had made an approach for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida.
The late move appears to little too late. Arsenal have tabled a £26.9m bid for the enforcer, but according to reports in Turkey (via the Star), Vida will turn Arsenal down to stay in Istanbul as he is so fond of the city.
Unai Emery wants more defensive options following the season-long-loan move of Calum Chambers. The duo of centre-back Sokratis, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund and 34-year-old Stephan Lichtsteiner arrived this summer, but the Gunners boss is keen to add one more to his arsenal.
The Evening Standard report that the Spaniard will make a move to snare Vida on the final day of the window.
