Arsenal have signed Spanish international José Antonio Reyes from Sevilla, according to the player’s personal website. The deal is subject to a medical.
The 20-year-old winger has been linked with the London club since the summer, but Arsenal reportedly had a £21m bid turned down in December.
Reyes’ signing is expected to be confirmed later on Tuesday at Sevilla’s Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium although Arsenal refused to comment on the move.
“I’m the happiest man and the saddest man in the world at the same time,” said Reyes on his website.
“I’m leaving the best team in Spain to join the best team in England.
“Without a doubt this is a step forward in my career but I’m not forgetting that I’m leaving the club that I love with all my heart.”
Reyes, who is under contract with Sevilla until 2010, made his full international debut for Spain as a substitute in a friendly with Portugal in September.
The left-sided player has made two further international appearances and scored 21 goals in 84 Primera Liga appearances.
According to reports, he is set to move to Highbury immediately, becoming the club’s record signing in the process. He is eligible for Champions League football and could make his debut against Manchester City this weekend.
