Arsenal sealed their place in next month’s FA Cup final at Wembley yesterday following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

Nacho Monreal’s stunning volley cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s opener, before Alexis Sanchez netted the winner in extra-time to send the Gunners through to their third FA Cup final in four seasons- with Arsene Wenger chasing a record eighth FA Cup crown.

The overall performance from Arsenal was fantastic, especially as they played a three-back formation for only the second-time, and Aaron Ramsey’s role in central midfield was crucially important to the victory for the Gunners.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game, Arsenal’s Welsh midfielder discussed the importance of the victory and spoke about his aim of winning the trophy for under-fire boss Arsene Wenger.

“I love this competition. We have been quite successful in recent years and you can see the passion that the players play with.”

“We went behind and kept on going and got a result. I made the mistake for the goal. I know in these situations you have to respond. I carried on trying to work my socks off and ultimately it paid off.”

“That is the second time we played this formation credit, to the boys. We have shown the character we have in this team.”

“It was important to win today, to have something to look forward to. But now we have another seven cup finals to try and get into the top four.  We have let him [Arsene Wenger] down at times this season, we want to win it for him and ourselves.”

Ramsey, who scored in Arsenal’s FA Cup final success in 2014, will now turn his attention towards the Premier League campaign, where the Gunners sit nine points behind Liverpool in third place but have three games in hand.

A crucial run of fixtures awaits over the next two weeks, as Arsenal clash with Leicester on Wednesday evening before huge tests against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
