Alex Iwobi is reportedly closing in on penning a new deal with Arsenal.

The Nigerian who progressed through the Gunners academy broke into the first-team in 2015. Iwobi has gone on to make 65 Premier League appearances, scoring eight times.

Recent reports from Italy had claimed that new manager Unai Emery was preparing to make Iwobi available for transfer amid interest from Serie A giants Lazio and AC Milan.

However, the Mirror say the 22 year-old is nearing a contract extension.

Iwobi’s current deal, signed in 2015, expires in two years’ time.

Mesut Ozil, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all penned fresh deals in 2018 and academy product Iwobi will be next.

The future of Aaron Ramsey remains uncertain though as he has now entered the final year of his contract.

Gooners, should Iwobi be a starter for Arsenal this season? Let us know in the comments…
