Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has been allowed to return to Chile as he recovers from a pulled hamstring sustained in the 1-1 draw with Norwich City.

The MirrorĀ says the Chilean has returned to his home nation for a week and will continue his recovery with the aid of the national side’s medical team.

Alexis showed signs of tiredness previously, and a rest for Arsenal’s superstar was always planned, but the injury issue brought that forward- and Arsenal hope that Alexis will return for the crunch-tie with Manchester City later this month.

However, it does confirm that Arsenal will be without the winger for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Sunderland and the following Champions League showdown with Olympiakos, where Arsenal must win by two-goals.

The loss of Alexis, particularly for the game in Greece, is a major blow to Arsenal as the Gunners are already without Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla, whilst it’s not yet known if Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be able to return.
