Lucas Torreira is not expected to play for Arsenal again this season after suffering a fractured ankle in the FA Cup 5th round win at Portsmouth.

The Gunners midfielder Torreira was forced off inside 16 minutes during Monday’s 2-0 win over the League One side.

He was replaced by Dani Ceballos and it has now been confirmed that he has suffered a fractured ankle. No timescale has been put on the injury, but he certainly faces a fight to return this season.

“I spoke with him and he was in pain,” said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

“We don’t really know exactly the extent of the injury – he needs to see the specialist here in London and we will know more about it.

“Since I joined, the amount of things that happened is enormous, but we just have to try to adapt.

“It doesn’t only happen to us, unfortunately it also happens to many other teams, so we cannot be crying about that.”

There is some positive news though – Kieran Tierney is back in full training after recovering from his dislocated shoulder back in December.

Arsenal will play host to West Ham United on Saturday afternoon as they look to continue their unbeaten run in the league.
