Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has rubbished reports he wanted to leave the club.

Mustafi was linked with a move away this summer following a inconsistent debut season in England.

Having signed for £35m from Valencia in 2016, the Germany international made a solid start to life in North London, but began to struggle during the second half of the campaign.

However, the 25-year-old has firmly refuted claims that he could have left the Emirates in the summer transfer window, reaffirming his commitment to the Gunners in the process.

Following a big performance in Saturday’s North London derby, the Metro have quoted him saying: “That’s your job. You are asking me about it, it’s your job from the people outside, talking and thinking that they know everything.

Mustafi celebrates after opening the scoring goal against Tottenham.

“What happens in the changing room is the real thing. I don’t understand why people just talk about things they cannot know about.

“If I have been talking to clubs or if I haven’t, it’s only rumours.”

He added: “I’m here, I’m standing in front of you in an Arsenal shirt.”

Mustafi was outstanding as he made his comeback in the 2-0 win over Tottenham. The German, who had been struggling with a thigh problem gave Harry Kane and co no quarter from start to finish.

He is expected to maintain his starting place away to Burnley this weekend.
