Arsenal target Jack Butland has discussed the possibility of a summer transfer from Stoke City to the Emirates Stadium as he responded to recent links of interest, Stoke Sentinel reports.

The 24-year-old England international has only recently returned from a long-term injury but he’s seen by Arsenal as a potential first-team goalkeeper for the club, as question marks raise about the suitability of Petr Cech and David Ospina to the club as Arsene Wenger’s future hangs in the balance.

Cech, who turns 35 in May, has struggled for form this season whilst Colombian ace Ospina has failed to show he has the capability to be Arsenal’s first-choice stopper, which has led to reported summer interest in Butland.

However, the player himself is remaining focused on his own recovery from injury and pushing himself back into the England squad. When asked about the links to Arsenal, he responded:

“I must have done all right this past year, I can’t remember. That’s football. It’s not anywhere near the transfer window yet, but that’s the way papers work.”

“I just take it as a positive that I’m still thought about in the football world after so long out. But my focus is on Stoke, always has been, and playing well. I’m just worried about getting playing again, getting the gloves and boots back on.”

“My only focus is playing again for Stoke, getting some game time before the end of the season and hopefully start getting back into the England side as well.”
