Lyon ace and Arsenal target Nabil Fekir today revealed he will be staying in France for the foreseeable future. Fekir has impressed greatly in Ligue 1, earning his first France call up and announcing himself on the world stage with some fine displays.

Arsenal are now said to be leading a host of clubs interested in the player’s signature, but Fekir moved to poor cold water on these rumours for now at least.

“There is so much talk of my departure but I honestly do not think that I will leave Lyon,” Fekir said.

“While in football it is said that you never know what the future holds, I will stay at Lyon regardless.”

Both the player and his father made no secret about his interest in joining Arsenal one day however. Fekir senior said in April that Arsenal is the only club his son would leave Lyon for. He also revelead that he and his son had cut ties with his agent after they held talks with Man City and attempted to push through a deal.

“They pushed for him to sign for City,” Fekir Snr said. “But I told them if he goes to City and finds himself on the bench, it doesn’t interest me, and the kid is not interested either.”

“He loves to play, he does not like to be replaced. And they pushed to sign him for City, that’s why he preferred to stop with them.”

“Nabil would like to play Champions League football with Lyon. If he leaves, it’ll be for Arsenal. It’s the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”

The news won’t be too much of a blow to Arsenal, as Wenger’s men are already well stocked in centre midfield. In fact it plays into Arsenal’s favour, as Fekir could be a target sometime down the line. The lad has impressed, but there is no room for him at Arsenal at the moment.
