|

The very latest Arsenal news today (Monday February 10) with updates on Viktor Gyokeres, William Saliba, Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui.

Mikel Arteta failed to land the striker that Arsenal wanted in the winter transfer window, and now the boss has been told he sold the Gunners’ answer to Viktor Gyokeres. Bad news with the Gunners trailing Liverpool by six points at the top of the Premier League standings, having played a game more.

The Sporting CP striker has emerged as one of the leading stars of the transfer market in recent months thanks to his prolific exploits in the Portuguese league.

Arteta is a keen admirer of Gyokeres, and though RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko may appear higher on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist than the Swede, the former Coventry star is considered a very viable option for the Emirates side come the summer.

Arteta though has now been told that he sold a figure who could have been ideal in this circumstance for just €9 million last January.

The Gunners moved on Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz, and the 22-year-old is now preparing to play Champions League football with Monaco after completing a €13m January transfer to the Ligue 1 side.

The striker, who described himself as “a mix between Erling Haaland and Harry Kane… only worse” already has four goals across four appearances for his new club.

“I think there’s more Viktor Gyokeres in him,” former Arsenal loan chief Ben Knapper told L’Equipe.

Real Madrid make record Saliba bid

Real Madrid have made a record-breaking move for Arsenal star defender William Saliba, according to French media outlet RMC Sport.

The reigning European champions are prepared to make Saliba their most expensive defensive signing in the club’s history in order to bring the centre back to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

According to RMC Sport, Arsenal have made it clear they have no intention to sign Saliba and will fight tooth and nail in order to keep the France international.

Saliba’s contract at Arsenal expires in 2027, though, meaning that the Gunners need to extend his deal soon. Madrid are aware of this and are ready to bide their time if they can’t complete a transfer this summer.

Los Blancos are revolutionising their backline, and already look certain to sign England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer from Liverpool this summer.

Gunners face Man Utd battle for Italian hitman

The Gunners reportedly face competition from Man Utd in the race to sign Atalanta forward Mateo Retegui following his immense recent form in Italy’s Serie A.

The 25-year-old striker joined Atalanta from Genoa for €20.9 million in August and he has scored a terrific 23 goals in 33 appearances for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side so far this campaign.

Retegui has attracted major transfer interest over the past few months and he is currently being pursued by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Man Utd ahead of a possible big-money summer move.

The Italy international is set to command a transfer fee of between €50-60m as Atalanta aim to maximise the potential transfer fee they could receive later this year and he is expected to be involved in a transfer tug-of-war between a host of top European clubs.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Retegui for several months and Mikel Arteta reportedly views the Atalanta star as the “ideal solution” to his side’s current centre forward woes.

However, Man Utd have now joined the race to sign him as Ruben Amorim looks to sign a new striker in 2025.

Arsenal and Spurs head race for Serie A star Kean

Arsenal and Tottenham are considering moving for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean this summer, according to top transfer expert Nicolo Schira.

Kean has exploded this season in Serie A since joining Fiorentina last summer from Juventus for a fee of €13 million plus €5m in bonuses.

He has scored 15 goals in 22 games in Serie A – making him the second-highest scorer in the division behind only Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui.

On Thursday, Kean hit the headlines with a brilliant double as Fiorentina stunned Serie A champions 3-0 in Florence.

Kean’s performances have led Fiorentina to be suprise challengers for a top four place in Serie A this season. But they have also led to admiring glances from Europe’s top clubs.

Schira reports that both the Gunners and Tottenham are monitoring Kean ahead of a potential summer move for the player.
