Arsenal have been linked with a new striker for several months now and we understand that RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko AND Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak remain key targets for Mikel Arteta. It’s not just us, either.
In his latest YouTube video (watch the full version at the bottom of this page), ace transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Arteta’s interest in the Slovenian (4:40 on), and at the same time he also provided an update on their pursuit of red-hot Toon forward Isak.
Per Romano, it appears the Gunners ARE looking to spend big this summer in a bid to improve their prowess in front of goal. It’s an area which is threatening to derail their title bid as Liverpool continue to remain six points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, with a game in hand.

Fabrizio Romano on Sesko
“For the striker position at Arsenal, it’s very clear; they will do something very big, very important and massive in the summer,” Romano said.
“In January, Arsenal were trying to understand the conditions of a deal for Benjamin Sesko, but RB Leipzig immediately closed the doors on a deal – no chance to negotiate with a very clear message from Oliver Mintzlaff, who really wanted to keep Sesko.
“In the summer, the feeling is completely different. The understanding is there will be a chance for Sesko to try something new and so Arsenal will be there. He is one of the top strikers on their list and he is also appreciated by other clubs, including Chelsea.
“Arsenal have kept contacts active because they believe that Sesko could be a strong and top candidate for the striker position from next season.
Isak to Arsenal? The latest updates
Romano then provided the latest regarding Newcastle United superstar Isak (at 5:54 in the video). He admitted: “The other name, the dream target [for Arsenal], is Alexander Isak. But, obviously in this case, it all depends on the final Premier League table position for Newcastle – Champions League football or not.
“Newcastle plan to advance in talks to offer a new contract for Isak, but we have to see what’s gonna happen there because Arteta is in love with Isak, and Sesko is also very high on the list.”

Isak and Sesko have both been terrific so far this season – the Swede has netted 17 times in 22 Premier League games while Sesko has 9 goals and 3 assists in 20 Bundesliga starts.
Both players would command a hefty fee approaching the record £105million payout the Gunners surrendered to prise Declan Rice away from West Ham in the summer of 2023.
