The match officials have now been confirmed for the Women’s FA Cup encounter between Arsenal and Watford at Meadow Park on Sunday 14th January (13:00).

Referee: Adewunmi Soneye.
Assistant Referee: Lorraine Catchpole.
Assistant Referee: Michael Butcher.
Fourth Official: Steven Hughes.

Adewunmi Soneye was successful in reaching the level of 1W and was promoted to referee Women’s Super League fixtures at the start of the season, along with Melissa Burgin and Phoebe Cross.

Soneye has been the man in the middle for two matches involving Arsenal Women, but this will be his first man involving Watford Women.

His first match involving Arsenal Women was the 9-0 win at home versus Leeds United Women in the Fourth Round of the Women’s FA Cup in January 2023, in front of a crowd of 2.405 at Meadow Park. In this match, he didn’t brandish any cards but did award a penalty to the hosts.

His last match involving Sunday’s hosts was the 2-2 draw away at Bristol City Women in October 2023, in front of a crowd of a record crowd of 12,008 at Ashton Gate. On this occasion, he showed four yellow cards, including bookings for Lotte Wubben-Moy and Alessia Russo.

So far this season he has refereed 7 matches, five of which were in the Women’s Super League and two in the Women’s Championship. In those matches, he showed a total of twenty yellow cards (2.86), no red cards and has awarded one penalty. He was most card-happy in the WSL match between Manchester United and Leicester City when he showed 6 yellow cards.
