Arsenal’s three best results of 2016/17

So far 2016/17 has been just as rollercoaster for Arsenal fans as any other.

After a disappointing opening day start going down 4-3 to Liverpool and a bore draw away to Leicester, it was firmly a case of here we go again.

Then form started to pick up, the Gunners blew away Chelsea, dispatched lower league opposition and rescued a Champions League point away to Paris Saint-Germain. In fact, Arsenal didn’t lose a Premier League game in 13 matches.

However, the atmosphere around The Emirates quickly transformed following two consecutive away defeats to Everton and Manchester City. Arsenal are now nine points adrift of Chelsea in 4th.

A vital three points were grabbed thanks to Olivier Giroud on Boxing Day, but what have been the best results of the campaign so far?

Victories over Burnley in October and West Ham last month have been noted, but take a look at THREE more important results for The Gunners…

Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea – Saturday 24 September

Arsenal appeared to demonstrate their title credentials when Arsene Wenger’s side obliterated Chelsea in the first half back in September.

Sanchez put the Gunners one up, before a beautifully well worked goal between Ramsey, Iwobi and Bellerin allowed Walcott to double Arsenal’s lead. Ozil put Arsenal out of site before half-time in what was a superb day for Arsenal fans.

Unfortunately, the defeat appears to be the best thing that could have happened to Chelsea, who have gone on to achieve 12 league wins in a row.

Ludogorets 2-3 Arsenal – Tuesday 1 November

The result away to Ludogorets seemed definitive before the teams kicked off. The Gunners put the Bulgarian side to the sword in the reverse fixture winning 6-0. Another Arsenal win was almost guaranteed.

However Ludogorets forgot to read the script and stunned Arsenal with an early 2-0 lead.

Wenger’s side pulled a goal back before half time through Granit Xhaka and in the second half Olivier Giroud equalised.

It wasn’t until the 87th minute when a simply sublime Mesut Ozil winner sealed the comeback. The result was crucial as The Gunners went on to win their Champions League Group A by the smallest of margins.

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal – Saturday 19 November

It seems unusual for a draw to be considered in the top three most important results. However, the rescued draw away to Manchester United felt like a win.

Arsenal played very poorly at Old Trafford, yet again. After Ander Herrera put United in front, it looked as if Arsenal would keep up their appalling results away to top six clubs.

However Giroud popped up late on to head in and rescue a point. The result halted Man United’s momentum, left Mourinho distraught and continued Arsenal’s unbeaten run. Happy days.
