As Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left the Gunners for Liverpool in the summer transfer window, the move became the record transfer fee Arsenal had ever received for a player.

The 24-year-old made the switch on deadline day for £35m, which eclipsed their previous record by over £10m.

So, with Oxlade-Chamberlain setting a new mark, it’s time to go back and look through Arsenal’s previous record transfer fees received in the Premier League era.

Before Liverpool came calling for Oxlade-Chamberlain, former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was the subject of a record transfer away from London, as Barcelona agreed a £29.8m move for the Spaniard in August 2011, with a further few million in add-ons.

Fabregas’ first season at Barcelona was a successful one for him personally, as he scored 15 goals and assisted 20, on the way to a dominant season.

He then won the La Liga title a year later, but failed to lead Barcelona to a Champions League crown, before heading back to the Premier League ahead of the 2014-15 season in a move to Chelsea.

Another transfer to Barcelona comes in at number three on this list, as winger Marc Overmars left Arsenal and moved to the Spanish giants in 2000 for £25m.

After winning the Premier League with the Gunners, Overmars failed to taste league success with Barcelona in his four seasons with the club.

In 2009, Emmanuel Adebayor moved across England to Manchester, and joined City for a fee around £25m.

After an impressive 46 goals in 104 league appearances for the Gunners, Adebayor didn’t have the same affect in City colours, and could only manage 15 goals from 34 games in Manchester, and went on loan to both Real Madrid and Tottenham before sealing a permanent move to White Hart Lane in 2012.

Finally, another transfer from Arsenal to Manchester City rounds out the top five, as Samir Nasri’s £24m move in 2011 is the fifth highest fee the Gunners have received for a player.

Unlike those before him, Nasri’s career took off after he left Arsenal, as the French attacking midfielder played more games for City then he did Arsenal, and won two league titles and a League Cup in Manchester.

Nasri finally left City in the most recent transfer window, and sealed a small money move to Antalyaspor in Turkey.

Despite big names moving away from the club in recent years, Arsenal have always challenged for the league title, and are once again among the favourites according to the online betting odds from CrownBet.
