Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal would have agreed a new deal for Aaron Ramsey if the Frenchman was still in charge.

Ramsey recently confirmed that he is to leave the Emirates at the end of the season and complete a move to Juventus.

With his contract expiring in June, the Welshman will in Turin arrive as a free transfer, however, this has only given him room to negotiate a £400,000-a-week contract with the Serie A champions.

Ramsey played under Wenger for 10 years and the pair enjoyed relative success, lifting the FA Cup three times, with Ramsey twice scoring the winning goal.

He was expected to pen a new deal following Wenger’s departure, but talks broke down and the club left the negotiation table.

Ex-Gunners boss Wenger, does not believe money had anything to do with the move.

He said: “In the case of Ramsey, it’s not a question at all of contract. Not at all.

“For the player I think it wasn’t a financial situation and not a desire for the player to leave.

“As long as I was there, I was convinced the player would stay.

“What happens after that, I don’t know.”

Gooners, do you believe Wenger is correct? Let us know in the comments…
